Alex and Kate Guernsey (ages 7 and 8) of Northern California became, perhaps, the world's youngest summer camp organizers this July.
They didn't want to attend one of the usual summer camps and so, the two entrepreneurs convinced their mother, Lana Guernsey, to let them host their own camp and invite several of their friends. “I told them if that was what they really wanted to do, they would need a theme and should give me a proposal about what would happen at this camp,” Guernsey explains.
Eight-year-old Kate followed up this request with a PowerPoint presentation outline of what five days of horse care camp would look like, complete with a camper and instructor schedule for she and her best friend, who were to teach the units.
The premiere season of Cow Camp was born. “The camp was originally called Camp KAL Rocks, using the first letter of our first names,” Guernsey says. “But everyone kept calling it Cow Camp. It's catchy and it fits because of our last name, which is also a type of cow.”
Life Lessons from Summer CampWhile Kate knew from day one she'd be offering horse care as one of the activities, little sis Alex wasn't as decisive. After giving it a great deal of thought, she decided to incorporate mini golf lessons along with arts and crafts activities for the campers. “Golf is a fun activity anybody can do,” she says.
Alex continues, “Mom gave me a budget of $100. I was going to use that for a woodworking camp, but I bought golf clubs instead, so I changed my camp to golf. I didn't have enough money to change my mind again.”
This was just one of the money management lessons the girls learned during the week's activities. Running the summer camp, the Guernsey girls received real life lessons in:
- marketing
- finance
- problem solving
- time management
- how to motivate and manage employees
Cow Camp ActivitiesThe camp incorporated a host of fun activities and culminated in a sleepover under the stars. During the week, campers took part in games like garden hose jump rope (an original game invented during the all-camp water fight), plus:
- Field trips
- Mini-golf
- Swimming
- Horse care
Kate says, “At other camps, you can't even get to touch horses, but at my camp you get to do real horse care and touch real horses. Now that's fun!"
What It Takes to Achieve a GoalKen Lauher, a celebrity Feng Shui consultant based in New York City, sponsored the camp in exchange for content for his popular Feng Shui blog, which includes life tips that emphasize using intuition and the power of intention to achieve success.
“The fact that the girls pulled off a successful summer camp, with their mother's help, of course, is evidence of intuition and intention at work. They knew what they wanted, created a plan, recruited the support they needed to make it happen, and achieved their goal. It's truly inspiring.”
You can find out more about the premiere season of Cow Camp at

Celebrity
Feng Shui consultant to appear on NBC's Weekend Today in New York, Sunday, January 24, 2010 between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.
As we gear up for Valentine's Day, our minds turn to thoughts of romance: attracting a lover, keeping a lover, making our sex life sizzle. Whatever improvements you want to make to your love life, Feng Shui can help.
Feng Shui is the ancient Eastern art of arranging your environment to be more in harmony with your goals and desires and promote the flow of chi (energy) through a space.
Ken Lauher, Feng Shui consultant to the stars, will appear live on NBC's Weekend Today in New York show, on Sunday, January 24, 2010 to show us how we can redesign our environment, and in particular our bedroom, to:
- attract love
- strengthen our romantic relationship
- improve our sex life.
During the segment, airing 7:40 AM Sunday, Ken will offer six tips to viewers for improving their love life using Feng Shui. Areas he will discuss include:
1. The most important objects to place in the relationship corner of your bedroom to improve all your personal relationships.
2. The optimal size for your bed, whether you are single or in a relationship.
3. Where to position your bed for a restful night's sleep and to put you in better command of your love life.
4. How your headboard might be pushing love and opportunities away - and what you can do about it!
5. Why "two" is the best number for design elements, including nightstands, in anyone's bedroom.
6. The best colors to paint your bedroom to find lasting love and romance.
"So many people don't realize how they inadvertently sabotage their love life with common design mistakes in the bedroom," Lauher says. "For example, if a person has exercise equipment in their relationship corner, they may find their relationship is a ‘workout' - they have to work too hard at it."
He continues, "Positive items to place in the relationship area include photos of you and your significant other during happy times, or pictures and representations of couples rather than individual people."
No stranger to television, print and the Web, Ken Lauher recently appeared on the TLC show, Moving Up, where he helped a client set up a new home and create a peaceful bedroom sanctuary.
He looks forward to the chance to help Weekend Today show viewers evaluate their own bedrooms and use Feng Shui to make positive changes in their love life.
"If you're looking for love, there might be changes you can make to help attract that special someone. But anyone can benefit from knowledge of Feng Shui - even the strongest relationships can use a little help sometimes," he says.

With layoffs and salary cuts continuing to rise worldwide, many people are pursuing alternate means of income. Seeking to give themselves every advantage in the marketplace, these new entrepreneurs are turning to ancient arts such as Feng shui and
numerology.
The New York Times Global Business section
spotlighted Indian numerologist Sanjay B. Jumaani. Mr. Jumaani works with top Bollywood stars, high-profile athletes and corporations to help them improve their fortune by changing their names or re-branding themselves or their companies.
Jumaani, it is reported, charges individuals $90 – that’s about one month’s pay for a household servant – for his services. Businesses, according to the article, pay more.
What numerology can doIn the United States, famed numerologists charge hundreds of dollars to help parents-to-be select baby names that will lead to a prosperous future for their offspring. People also consult numerologists to determine the best:
- business names
- product names
- pet names
- alternate spellings of their own name
- Web domain names
Ken Lauher’s
Name Grader provides the same service -- entirely free. Type in the name of choice and the Name Grader will tell you if the name entered is:
Favourable - Auspicious, marked by success, favored by fortune, prosperous and promising success, opportune, fortunate
Unfavourable - Not auspicious, unpromising, unfortunate or
Neutral – Marked by neither auspicious or inauspicious influences
More than 20,000 names evaluatedSince its launch in August 2009, the Name Grader has already evaluated more than 20,000 names.
“Many Feng Shui and numerology experts charge people hundreds of dollars for this simple task. By sharing the Name Grader on my website, I’m able to offer the exact same service to unlimited numbers of people worldwide, entirely free,” says Ken Lauher, celebrity Feng Shui consultant and Name Grader inventor.
Numerology success storiesThe New York Times shares one success story in its article. Tour company owner Sajivv Trehaan changed his name from Sajivv Trehan at Mr. Jumaani’s advice, and says his life and business has improved immeasurably since then. The maiden voyage of his new luxury train tour sold out.
Could your name be holding you back from achieving all you desire? Type your name or your business name into the powerful Name Grader and see if you, too, might achieve greater success with a variation of the name or a different spelling.

This holiday season,
Feng Shui consultant Ken Lauher, is working with celebrity clients to bring joy and continued prosperity into their homes. He offers easy Feng Shui tips you can apply to welcome wealth, abundance and happiness into your home this Thanksgiving.
Feng Shui your entrance to set the tone for the event. "Create an experience before your guests enter your space by decorating the front door or entry point with holiday items," Lauher says. "Get them excited about the event and feeling good."
Make sure the path to your home and the entrance is illuminated. Bells on the door will greet guests with a cheerful chime. Consider all five senses as you use these additional Feng Shui tips to inspire a festive mood in your home this Thanksgiving.
- The aroma of holiday foods cooking should fill the air. Offer guests a beverage and snacks as soon as they arrive.
- Arrange the table so that everyone has enough space and no one is pushed into a corner, feeling trapped.
- The host should sit in the command position, which is at an angle from the entrance into the room. He should be able to see the door, but not sit directly in line with it.
- Energize the dining room with a lively seasonal centerpiece of fresh flowers, pumpkins, gourds.
- Unscented votive candles around the table add warmth and joy.
- Enhance the atmosphere with holiday tunes or a playlist of your guests' favorite songs.
- After dinner, encourage social activities: a board game, a puzzle, or a walk outside.
"Remember, the holiday is about family and friends, so focus on creating an atmosphere that encourages interaction and take time to savor every moment of the day," says Lauher.
"Gandhi's advice rings with the wisdom of the Tao," he adds. "The spiritual leader said: ‘Chew your drink and drink your food.' Solid foods should be chewed to liquid, and liquids should be swallowed as slowly as solid food."
