Feng Shui Your Business: Create a Corporate Boardroom for Global Success

We live in a global economy and, for many U.S. businesses, videoconferencing helps bridge the gap with our neighbors to the East. Now, more than ever, it's important to design a corporate boardroom that will optimize your opportunities, promote a positive flow of chi, and encourage business success.

Here are a few Feng Shui tips to help you create a better boardroom for your business.

1. Select your conference room location carefully - Conference rooms should not be situated next to stairs, elevators or bathrooms, and they should not be the first thing you see when you enter an office building.

2. Make sure the room is big enough. - The room should comfortably hold a large, round or oval table with plenty of room around it for clearance behind chairs. Mirrors can be used to visually expand a space if the room is smaller than desired.

3. The executive or meeting head should be in the command position, with a view of the door but not directly in line with the door, from the head of the table.

4. Avoid sharp corners and angles on walls or furniture, as these expel “killing” (sha) chi that can cause health problems, reduce productivity and cause misfortune. Some points can be softened by placing plants in front of or on top of tables.

5. Streamline technology. Messy wires, broken equipment or old technology that has outlived its useful lifespan diminishes productivity while sending a message that the business may be struggling and cannot afford better. Consider new equipment, with wires hidden to reduce electronic clutter. While it's understandable that a conference room will have visible technology, consider equipment cabinets to hide equipment when it's not in use, as electronics emit extensive life energy that can inhibit focus, cause distraction and slow down decision-making.
