What Does it Take To Be Wealthy?
When we talk to people about wealth or abundance, they often assume we mean material wealth: money, cars, toys, a 5,000-square-foot home, exotic vacation. It's true that this is how many people define wealth. But even definitions of material wealth vary widely.
Someone may define being wealthy as being able to own a 5,000-square-foot home in suburbia. Even then, that suburban home would cost a lot more in New York than in South Dakota. Others may consider themselves wealthy if they had a self-sustaining tract of farmland with solar power and the means to provide for themselves and their families. Still others put a specific dollar value (millionaire, billionaire, etc.) on the achievement of wealth.
Defining Wealth Beyond Possessions
The definition of abundance gets even stickier when we factor in the intangibles that make our lives rich: family, friends, fulfilling work. For many people, as long as their basic necessities are met, this is all that's needed to consider themselves wealthy.
If you are looking to achieve wealth in any form, first define it for yourself. It's important not to define your wealth by other people's perceptions. Otherwise, you'll spend your life chasing someone else's dream.
Whether it's material things, a goal, a certain career, or finding the love of your life, there are no wrong answers. Because you will achieve true wealth once you believe you have it -- whatever “it” is.
Live “As If”
Once you determine -- and write down -- what it would take to make you feel wealthy, capture the feeling it would give you, then begin living with that feeling every day.
Begin your morning with positive affirmations to remind yourself: “I am wealthy.” “I feel (the feeling that wealth would bring).” “I have (your definition of wealth).”
Once you've captured that feeling, you'll find that opportunities flow toward you to help you achieve your goals for wealth.
