How To Choose The Best Headboard for Romance

feng shui romanceIn addition to placing your bed in the command position of your master bedroom and playing close attention to what you keep in the romance corner of your bedroom, your choice of headboard also plays a role in your quality of sleep and the potential of or stability in your relationship.

A Feng Shui headboard should be made of one solid piece -- wood or a cloth material in a pleasing, calming color. (Or a muted shade of red or pink to encourage romance in the bedroom.) The headboard should be firmly attached to the bed for practical and safety purposes, as well as to create a sense of security, protection and stability that will lead to better romance and a better night's sleep.

A Feng Shui headboard should not be made up of individual posts, giving it a crib-like quality. If you're stuck with a headboard like this, though, you can wrap cloth ribbons around the posts to soften the effect of those “bars” behind your head.

Avoid storage headboards where you might be tempted to place books, electronics or other objects that can introduce too much yang energy and interfere with a good night's sleep.

A footboard in Feng Shui is optional -- many people feel a footboard gives them the sense of sleeping in a coffin.

What type of headboard do you have?

my "headboard" is actually a set of three dressers with their backs facing the bed - and the front used for a dressing area (the bed is actually in the middle of the room, as recommended by a feng shui consultant. Anything I can do to soften this situation (since the dresser is filled with clothes?) or is this ok in terms of romance aspects? Thanks!

My bed is full size, set in the command position, the head board is wood with a verticle wood piece down the middle, it looks like to wooden squares on the head board. I went to Home Depot and picked up a wodden scalloped design and put it in the middle of the verticle wood at the top. It looks as though the wooden scalloped piece joins the 2 squares together. I've been hopping that this is a good cure!

How can I have good fung shui with a platform bed that has covered storage in the headboards in a basement room that has mirrors for closet doors?

Felicia, we want to focus on the things we can change and not on the items we cannot. Ideally, it would be appropriate to purchase a new bed with a simple headboard. Mirrors in the bedroom can actually enhance communication between people. I would first focus on the purchase of a new bedframe with solid headboard and bed mattress. Then I might consider introducing flowers or plants into the space to lift the chi or energy.

Hi Ken! I've placed my bed in command position and with my right to a window. The problem is that my headboard is very low, barely 2 inches above the mattress. Are there any cures that can be done for this situation without the purchase of a new bed/ fitting a new headboard?

Alana, It is best to have a solid headboard. This can be of fabric or wood. The bed itself should be in a command position. Take a look at http://www.kenlauher.com/ask-ken/bid/7085/Feng-Shui-Bedroom-The-Placement-of-a-Bed.

Erie, If you are referring to a cure for a higher headboard. Not really a cure except to get a new headboard that is firmly attached to the bed.
