How To Apply the Feng Shui Ba Gua to Your Desk for Increased Success

We've talked about how to apply the Feng Shui Ba Gua to a room, a whole house or apartment and even a yard. But you can also apply the Feng Shui Ba Gua to a desk for increased business or financial success.

The Feng Shui Ba Gua Made Easy
The diagram shows the eight trigrams of the Feng Shui Ba Gua and the areas of life they correspond to. When you lay the Feng Shui Ba Gua out over your desk, use the space you sit, where you place your chair, as the “front entrance.”

Placing the Feng Shui Ba Gua over a rectangular desk, you should be sitting in the career section, with the knowledge and wisdom section to your left and the travel and helpful people section to your right, as you're facing the desk.

To remember this in business terms, think of a “right-hand man” (or woman) as being a helpful person. They would sit at your right hand.

The back left corner of your desk is the wealth and prosperity area, with fame and reputation in the back center, and then love and marriage in the far right. In front of love and marriage is the creativity and children trigram. In front of the wealth trigram sits health and family.

Activating Sections of the Feng Shui Ba Gua on Your Desk
Most people will want to concentrate on specific areas of their business -- notably, wealth and prosperity, fame and reputation, knowledge and wisdom, creativity, or travel and helpful people. It depends on where you are in life and in your business -- and what business you're in.

Here are some ideas to activate these sections of the Feng Shui Ba Gua.

1. To empower the wealth and prosperity corner, consider adding a money tree plant to help your business grow. For the relationship corner, consider adding a desk lamp to shine light on the relationship you have with your customers and co-workers.

2. To activate the travel section, either because you hope to travel more frequently for business, want business trips go more smoothly or because your business is related to travel, empower this segment of the Ba Gua with items that remind you of successful trips you've taken. Have a coffee mug from your favorite trade show spot? Keep it at your right hand, filled with your favorite hot beverage for a pick-me-up and inspiration. To attract helpful people, keep a book by someone you'd like to be a mentor in that spot.

3. Colors can be very powerful in Feng Shui. The color black is associated with career. To empower this trigram of the Ba Gua, consider placing an object of this color on this section of your desk.

When you use the Feng Shui Ba Gua on your desk, it's important not to clutter your desk with a variety of useless objects, trying to empower every section of the Ba Gua. Choose one or two areas to focus and one or two objects with real purpose and meaning.

Most importantly, keep your desk tidy -- every object should have a purpose and, when you end your work for the day, you should clear everything off, leaving no unfinished business, which could affect your sleep and leisure time.
