The Feng Shui Placement of a Kitchen within a Home

Feng Shui KitchenThe kitchen, even more so than the family room, is often considered the social center of a home. Ideally, the kitchen should be placed in the wealth or relationship (hsun or kun) portion of the house based on the ba gua.

It should have close proximity to the family room and possibly the garage, accommodating a family's natural movement path and encouraging interaction and social activities.

In a family with children, standing in the kitchen should afford a clear view of a home's backyard as well as often-used interior areas, such as a playroom or family room.

The kitchen should sit behind the central line, rather than in the front of the home. As long as the kitchen is not placed in the very center of the house or apartment (the central palace), you shouldn't have problems. A kitchen in the center of the home may increase the risk of fire and financial struggles.

I love reading this articles but oftentimes your feng shui technics I feel are only based on people who live in large homes. What about people who live in apartments.

I agree. Also, I have heard from my friends that Ken doesn't follow up after the consultation and I believe its not fair.

I enjoy reading about feng shui, but unless you are building your house from scratch many of the tips are unrealistic. Give some tips for small apartment living, especially in new york with small rooms and TINY kitchens, all beyond your control if this is where you want to live.

Thank you all for the comments. I truly appreciate your feedback and interaction. This article was a direct request based on comments from a previous article. I will take your comments seriously and will work on incorporating more tips for apartments. Many of these tips can be applied to apartments although sometimes I may not list apartment but rather home. I reviewed the last 21 articles and found that 16 are relevant to apartments and apartment living as I too live in an apartment in NYC.

Thanks again...

David, appreciate your comment and feedback. At the present time, my current consulting packages do include phone and email follow-up and I offer discounts for return trips to on-site consultations. I do talk to each and every client about follow-up and reach out to me after the consult to understand what is happening, what they are experiencing and to offer suggestions and updates. If they have not reached out to me, I do try to follow-up with them to answer any questions they may have. If you would like to send me an email with the friends you mention, I would be more than happy to reach out to them to offer my assistance as I'm here to help them and all those that have an interest in Feng Shui and improving their current situation / life.

My kitchen does not have a view to my backyard and my back is typically to the action of the kitchen and the dining room when I am working at the counter or doing dishes or cooking, I cannot afford to change the countertops, sink placement, and stove....I just spent a ton of money to gut and redo my kitchen. It is mostly in the health and family section and crosses over partially into the wisdom and self-cultivation area. How can I enhance this space with mirrors, fountains, chimes, etc.?

Thank you,
Kris

Kris, Thanks for the notes. The first thing you should do is try to put yourself in a command position. One thing you can do is to place a mirror behind the stove so that you can see behind you and thus, putting you in a command position.
