Truth and Love In Everything We Do

Truth and loveIt is no easy task to move from an ego-centered selfish point of view toward one of openness, love, and compassion. To live a life of open-handed and open-hearted love, forgiveness, patience, and acceptance requires a great deal of inner work. And yet this is what must be undertaken, step by step, if we are to walk the spiritual path to enlightenment.

Bodhicitta, "awakened mind," is the luminous heart of the Dharma. Wisdom and compassion - truth and love are absolutely indispensable, mutually supportive, and totally inseparable. If it looks like wisdom, but is unkind rather than loving, it's not wisdom.

If it feels like love, but it's not wise, it's not love.

Like the two wings that together enable a bird to fly, love and wisdom are interdependent. These complementary facets of the heart-jewel of bodhicitta - clear, precise, sharp swordlike wisdom and warm, nurturing, open-hearted compassion - facilitate swift transformation on the great highway of awakening. If these qualities don't show up in our daily lives, our Dharma needs better grounding in our bodies and on this earth.

Bodhicitta is the core of spiritual development. The ultimate absolutely transcendent aspect of bodhicitta is sunyata, luminous emptiness or pure and untrammelled, radiant openness. The relative, more conventional aspect of bodhicitta is an unselfish aspiration for enlightenment, best embodied in the Bodhisattva's vow to alleviate the suffering of all beings.

Georgia, Great question. I am human so I too have baggage, issues and experience suffering. However, with meditation, feng shui, exercise and constant practice, I now live a much fuller, richer, more experienced life. Take a moment to understand what patterns or habits you have currently and determine if they are helping you with your desired outcomes. What would help you achieve your desired outcomes? Answer those questions can help you start your path.

Thank you somuch for this excerpt. I have saved the lines about wisdom and love..which are exquisite. The most trying part of these days is the anguish of NOT being able to help the oil slicked animals who need rescue or the marshes and waters needing oil clean up. How does

God and my spirit come to terms with being in California and needing to help and not being able to go lend a hand. I am praying and praying for the gulf and I am beseeching God to help find a center inside where I am free from this environmental despair. How is everyone coping with this? The Dalai Lama was recently asked why all the recent disasters and why he does not worry about them. He stated that nothing good comes out of worrying. If you have a chance and opportunity to help and make a difference, then you should. And those things you are not able to influence should not worry about. Keep in mind, you can do lots of things regardless of geographic location. You can donate to a variety of causes in the form or money or time. You can create additional awareness. You can bring people together to make sure that we are more prepared. You can purchase items from that region to help the economy. Help when and where you can and don't get stuck on what you can't help with.

It is kind to remind others the core of remembering exists within. We are each birds soaring, though not everyone yet recalls how to see the forest for the trees.
