Being Right, Making Wrong

Complaining as well as faultfinding and reactivity strengthen the ego's sense of boundary and separateness on which its survival depends. But they also strengthen the ego in another way by giving it a feeling of superiority on which it thrives.

It may not be immediately apparent how complaining, say, about a traffic jam, about politicians, about the "greedy wealthy" or the "lazy unemployed," or your colleagues or ex-spouse, men or women, can give you a sense of superiority.

Here is why: When you complain, by implication you are right and the person or situation you complain about or react against is wrong.

There is nothing that strengthens the ego more than being right. Being right is identification with a mental position - a perspective, an  opinion, a judgment, a story. For you to be right, of course, you need someone else to be wrong, and so the ego loves to make wrong in order to be right.

In other words: You need to make others wrong in order to get a stronger sense of who you are. Not only a person, but also a situation can be made wrong through complaining and reactivity, which always implies that "this should not be happening."

Being right places you in a position of imagined moral superiority in relation to the person or situation that is being judged and found wanting. It is that sense of superiority the ego craves and through which it enhances itself.

Who is Right , who is wrong?

We each of us Know... Just need to

confront Ego, and realize, recognize, and come into the moral superiority, the one that leads to balance and find out...Who is right , who is wrong...

This is excellent. I will try to keep this in mind whenever I start to complain about other people.

This truth has made a huge difference in my life. Letting go of the need to be right opened my heart to love and compassion. Of course, it still comes back, but I am more aware of it now.

There is no wrong and there is no right - it just IS.

I think there has to be an awareness on how people's actions contribute to others' situation. Right or wrong, the decisions others take does effect the ability to pay rent and have food on the table. And then the survival of Ego suddenly helps your Body to survive. A thought from my experiences.... If everybody would let go of Ego at the same time, it would work out great, but if not, there will just be another tilt in power structures.

There is truth in what you say. But let us imagine an alternate scenario. Let's say you understand the ego very well, and can recognize it in yourself and it has been your life's work to live with it. Do you believe that complaining has no place? There are some people that apply the highest standards of operating as a human that they can search out. And they complain because they are affected in so many ways by entities that do not spare a thought on self improvement, or how their actions affect others. when these entities complain, it has nothing to do with ego, it is actually a frustrating experience that they would rather do without. Respect is usually taught, and the law of confrontation is usually the only impetus that a unaware entity can understand. I know people that don't respect kind words as much as they respect screaming and yelling. This is a bother for those who choose otherwise for themselves. You can show kindness all day long, but that does not mean your ego is not being stimulated.

One more thought. Necessity is the mother of invention. Many improvements started off with a complaint. I believe there is a time and place for everything under the sun, well almost everything.
