Tao Energy

Complaining and reactivity are favorite mind patterns through which the ego strengthens itself. For many people, a large part of their mental-emotional activity consists of complaining and reacting against this or that. By doing this, you make others or a situation "wrong" and yourself "right."

Through being "right," you feel superior, and through feeling superior, you strengthen your sense of self. In reality, of course, you are only strengthening the illusion of ego.

Can you observe those patterns within yourself and recognize the complaining voice in your head for what it is?

Thanks! You just affirmed how powerful we struggle with our egos. I struggle with a certain situation this weekend and you just confirmed that I allowed my ego to become stronger by my actions. I will conquer my ego by making myself more aware of my ego's control and come back to the here and now.

Thank you.

Your site is beautiful and quite inspirational. Your choice of E.Tolle for today's post is excellent. He dissects our psychology in a way as to reveal to us the uncounscious bias we often have... It is vey liberating if one puts it into practice!!!

Hit the nail on the head with that one, Ken. Thanks for the reminder.

I have been reading Tolles’ book. I have been trying to become more aware of the tricks that my ego plays. Sometimes, I am aware that my ego is up to something, but I let it go because I like the feelings involved. Is the ego the true source of evil? Maybe it’s not a fallen angel after all, but my ego that is whispering in my ear.

After reading that I am reminded that our ego often makes judgments about what is being "done" to it. Rather than focus on creating a sense of right and wrong, as the observer of ourselves, we should understand how situations make us feel. In understanding our emotions, and not letting the ego create a judgment, that complaining voice holds less power over us.

Kudos on your website.
